On the other hand, Russia’s Vladimir Putin said that the first day of the invasion was successful. The Russian forces continue to press further into Ukraine surrounding the capital Kyiv. The first day and night were spent fighting and shelling across several Ukrainian cities. Many Ukrainians either took shelter at metro stations, bomb shelters, in basements, or fled across the border to Poland.

Ukraine has ordered general mobilisation prohibiting men aged 18-60 from leaving the country.
