Uttar Pradesh Election Results 2022: Thankful to PM Modi, says Yogi in victory speech

The counting of votes for the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections 2022 has begun. Keep up with the latest trends to know who’s winning where.

The people of Uttar Pradesh have given their mandate for the Assembly Election 2022. Uttar Pradesh is the largest state among the 5 states that went to the polls this year. About 15 crore people voted this year, to choose a government. Voting was held in seven phases starting from February 10, 2022. It concluded on March 7, 2022, for a total of 403 seats. The number of seats needed to win in Uttar Pradesh is 202.

  • As per final official EC data, BJP won 255 seats and SP won 111 seats. Congress won 2 seats and BSP won 1 seat.  
  • SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav wins from the Karhal seat with a margin of more than 67,000 votes, but his party loses the elections. 
  • PM Modi speaks of future electoral victory, saying that 'experts' cited BJP's 2017 UP victory to 2019 Lok Sabha victory. He said that going by the logic, they should be able to win the 2024 Lok Sabha elections as well.

    • BJP's Pankaj Singh is leading in Noida by more than 1 lakh votes. 
    • BJP wins 3 constituencies in Uttar Pradesh - Barkhera, Tindwari and Pilibhit, according to the Election Commission.  
    • BJP trails in 3 seats in UP capital Lucknow. SP is leading on these three seats - Lucknow North, Lucknow Central and Mohanlalganj. 
    • Samajwadi Party issued an advisory to cadres as it continued to trail behind BJP in the elections. The advisory asked the cadres to remain vigilant as several more rounds of votes are yet to be counted. The advisory also alleged that BJP is trying to trick SP workers with early celebrations. 
    • Biocon's Executive Chairperson Kiran Mazumdar Shaw congratulates BJP for its victory in UP, says CM Yogi Adityanath has fulfilled the demands of the people for stability and progress.

    • Union Minister Jitendra Singh tells India Today TV that the election results have broken many a jinx in Uttar Pradesh referring to the party's return to power. 
    • BJP is leading in 267 seats, with SP trailing behind with 131 seats. Uttar Pradesh CM Yogi Adityanath is set for a historic return to power. No political party since 1985 has been able to win a second term in Uttar Pradesh.

    Rampur - Azam Khan of SP leads with over 31,000 votes. 

    Suar - Azam Khan's son Abdullah Azam Khan of SP leading with over 29,000 votes. 

    Mau - Ex-mafia boss Mukhtar Ansari's son Abbas trails behind BJP candidate Ashok Kumar Singh.

    Mohammadabad - Mukhtar Ansari's nephew Suhaib alias Mannu Ansari leading with over 23,000 votes. 

    Nizamabad - Veteran politician Alam Badi of SP is leading with more than 17,000 votes.   

    • BJP leading in 268 seats, SP leading in 123 seats, Congress and BSP decimated in the elections with single-digit leads.

    • Here are the early trends from Uttar Pradesh's caste-dominated seats. 
    • BJP's Pankaj Singh leading in Noida. On the other hand, BJP turncoat Dharam Singh Saini, who joined SP ahead of the polls, is leading in Nakur.    
    • SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav leading in Karhal with more than 12,000 votes. 
    • Incumbent Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath leads in Gorakhpur Urban constituency with over 15,000 votes. 
    • Shivpal Yadav of SP trailing from Jaswantnagar. Brajesh Pathak of BJP leading in Lucknow Cantt constituency.     
    • BJP touches the 240 mark, SP trails behind with 96 seats.

    • Counting of votes begins. 
    • BJP and the Samajwadi Party along with their alliances are in a direct battle in Uttar Pradesh. While the incumbent Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath of BJP is seeking a second term, former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav of SP is seeking to return to power.
    • BSP, Congress and some other parties are also in the fray, but the parties are unlikely to be major players in this battle.
    • India Today-Axis My India Exit Poll indicated that the BJP will have a clean sweep in Uttar Pradesh with an average of 307 seats. SP is expected to win only 86 seats, followed by BSP with 6 seats and Congress at a mere 2 seats.
    • Akhilesh Yadav of the SP alleged that the EVMs were tampered with to favour the BJP. He accused the Election Commission of being involved in the rigging of elections. The EC refuted the accusation and said that all the EVMs are secure and surrounded by three-tier security, with continuous CCTV monitoring.
    • Yogi Adityanath of BJP is contesting from Gorakhpur Urban constituency. The SP has fielded Subhavati Shukla, the widow of late Upendra Dutt Shukla, a former BJP leader.
    • Akhilesh Yadav is contesting from Karhal and is pitted against BJP’s SP Singh Baghel.
