Elon Musk snatches Twitter legacy blue tick, sees Starship crash, loses $13 billion: All in 24 hrs

Elon Musk is chaos personified, and NOT in an intelligent and genius way. Musk's 4/20 (weed day) humour doesn't seem to be going well for him. There's chaos against at Twitter as legacy blue ticks are being removed, SpaceX's Starship achieved liftoff but exploded minutes later, and Musk has lost $13 billion in the last 24 hours.

What's happening at Twitter?

  • The "legacy blue tick" purge is currently happening and several celebrities who did not subscribe to Twitter Blue have already lost their blue ticks.
  • From Democratic Party politician Hillary Clinton in the US to Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in India, and Karnataka CM Basavaraj Bommai, several prominent personalities no longer have the blue tick next to their Twitter names.

  • Shah Rukh Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Priyanka Chopra, Bill Gates, Beyonce, Oprah Winfrey, Leonardo DiCaprio, and more have all lost their blue ticks.
  • However, Elon Musk's brand of practical humour is being played out on a few celebrities on Twitter.

  • Author Stephen King who had said he won't be paying the $8 per month fee to keep his blue check mark, still has a blue tick next to his name. But he claims he hasn't subscribed to Twitter Blue, paid for it, or shared his phone number with the company.

  • Turns out, Elon Musk is paying for the Twitter blue ticks of three celebrities personally that includes American basketball star LeBron James.

  • While it seems like a joke on Elon Musk's end, one netizen questioned whether it is really misinformation by giving a false impression.

  • And some people have bought the false impression Musk has set up, with one Twitter user mocking King for subscribing to Twitter Blue despite announcing that he wouldn't.

  • The description on the Elon Musk-paid blue ticks also says that the Twitter user is paying for the blue ticks.
  • On the other hand, some government agencies complained that they didn't hear back from the company when they applied to a free blue tick special program meant for government entities.
  •  The Bay Area Rapid Transit system in San Francisco said they had applied for the program but did not hear from the company.
  • White House's Twitter account still has a grey tick despite the White House saying it won't be subscribing to Twitter Blue.
  • It seems like Twitter is still keeping grey ticks for major government bodies and persons like US President Joe Biden, India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi, etc.
  • But the US Citizenship and Immigration Services tweeted that they have lost their blue tick. They also warned users to not fall for impersonators.

  • Human Rights Watch also said they won't be paying for Twitter Blue after losing their blue tick because they believe the new meaning for the verified tick is, "someone - maybe me, maybe not me - paid 8 clams."

Of course, there are several impersonators and parody accounts that have cropped up. An unchecked Jeff Bezos says he's shutting down Amazon, a dead US politician says his plane crashed, and a non-existent journalist got the attention of Musk saying people will die because of the new Twitter Blue policy.

Elon Musk's eroding wealth:

  • As the world's second richest man struggles to keep the lights on at Twitter, he's also lost a fortune within the last 24 hours.
  • Bloomberg reported that Musk's wealth dropped $12.6 billion as a result of Tesla's sinking share price. Tesla makes up the biggest part of his overall fortune.
  • The latest erosion of Musk's wealth comes after he made headlines in January 2023 for breaking the world record for the largest loss of personal fortune ever in history.

On the other hand, SpaceX Starship, the biggest rocket ever made, made a successful liftoff from the launch pad on Thursday, April 20. But the rocket exploded 4 minutes after liftoff and did not complete the intended mission.
