Anna Sorokin of Inventing Anna is being deported to Germany from US

Seems like the US law enforcement officials are saying, “I do not have time for this; I do not have time for you,” to the real Anna Sorokin of the Netflix series Inventing Anna, as they deport the con artist back to Germany.

Anna Sorokin (AKA Anna Delvey), the Russian-born German con artist duped the New York City elite and several banks into believing she was a $65 million trust fund baby, to live luxuriously without paying a dime for it. She was set to be deported back to Germany on Monday night.

In a way, Anna Sorokin received one last freebie as she left New York, a flight back to Frankfurt.

WHAT IS ANNA DOING NOW?

Now, that the whole world knows about the con artist – thanks to the Netflix series Inventing Anna, it is going to be tough for Anna Sorokin to live the life she lived in New York. But like she boasted in one of her interviews after getting out of Rikers Island prison, ‘crime pays, in a way’, it seems like there are a few projects lined up for her.

  • Netflix paid Anna Sorokin some $320,000 for making a series on her life story. However, she had to pay back some $100,000 to City National bank, $70,000 to Citibank, $75,000 in legal fees and another $24,000 in fines. This left her with around $51,000.
  • Sorokin last claimed in her court documents that she is finally broke and was granted 'poor person's relief' while filing for her appeal against her conviction.
  • But the Netflix series is not the only project around the corner for the glamourised con artist – she also has a book deal in works, for a memoir she was writing since her incarceration at the Rikers’ Island prison.
  • Anna Sorokin is also set to appear on a podcast show called Call Her Daddy on Wednesday, March 16, 2022. It is likely that she’ll be on the podcast as a guest once she lands in Germany.
  • She is also set to create a podcast of her own. She appeared in a podcast Forbidden Fruits just days before her deportation.

    • Anna also had a recent SNL (Saturday Night Live) sketch made on her.
    • Anna Sorokin still has the same ambitious dreams she held during her con days in New York. She is planning to build a fashion apparel line and also create NFTs.
    • She had sued the New York ICE (Immigration and Customs Enforcement) for failing to get her a booster Covid-19 shot after she contracted the virus while in their custody for overstaying her visa.

    WHO IS ANNA SOROKIN?

Unless you have been living under a rock or are on a social media detox, you may have heard about Anna Delvey or Anna Sorokin. Anna Sorokin hogged the limelight in 2017 for having duped the New York City elite and several US banks into believing she was a German heiress worth $65 million in a trust fund.

Using this persona, she lived through several luxurious hotels, fine-dined throughout New York City, bought an endless barrage of designer clothes, went on expensive vacations, flew in a private jet, and even ALMOST convinced a US bank of loaning her $22 million for setting up her art business called the Anna Delvey Foundation.

All this time, she paid not a single penny from her pocket, not at the hotels, at the vacation, restaurants, or anywhere. She did not come from money, never had $65 million to her name, and was not an heiress. Her father was a truck driver and her mother ran a local convenience store.

Anna Sorokin’s crimes caught up to her when she failed to pay her hotel bills once again and the hotel authorities called the police on her. She was found to have duped banks and hotels of nearly $200,000. She was also charged with duping her friend of some $60,000 during a vacation which she had insinuated to be an all-expense-paid trip; however, Sorokin was acquitted of the charge.

Her crimes have been memorialised in Netflix hit series, Inventing AnnaWhat will become of the New York City fake German heiress back at her home, no one knows. Will she continue her crimes, or will she make her way back into the US again?
