Daily Recco, June 25: Watch Before The Flood, a plea for the planet

Before The Floods (2016) is an important film, for it not only raises important questions but also arms viewers with very possible solutions.

Remember the time when you saw Leonardo DiCaprio on Titanic? For most of us growing up in that era, his classic looks teamed with his charm were enough to get us gushing over him.

And that was all good until his documentary, Before the Flood, released in 2016. We saw his commitment to the cause of climate change and thanks to his stardom, he had our full attention — whether or not we were overly concerned about the environment.

As the co-founder of Earth Alliance, DiCaprio teamed up with National Geographic in this wonderful and alarming documentary to sound a loud warning on the impending climate change crisis.

The documentary features some moving and stirring accounts on the impacts of the rising sea levels, deforestation and other destruction that humans have wrought. Armed with excellent direction by Fisher Stevens, the film does not merely raise questions or indulge in finger-pointing. It arms us with solutions — starting with reducing meat consumption, all the way to voting for leaders who will fight for our future. It serves to be a great primer to introduce children to environmental degradation and sway the sceptical friends towards the cause of the planet.

Watch it for all the honesty it portrays, if you have turned a blind eye so far towards climate change and its dangers. Or if you have been superficially reading about it, but aren’t too bothered. It will help you check the insanely paced consumption and the consequent destruction, and help you make some informed choices. From what you eat, to who you vote for.

Watch Before the Flood for the planet. It is on Amazon Prime, Netflix and YouTube.
