Winning Bigg Boss 10 means zilch, Manveer will learn the hard way

Another season of Bigg Boss has come to an end and the world is still spinning. This season, for the first time in the show’s history, featured both celebrity and non-celebrity guests. And as fate would have it, the winner of this year’s Bigg Boss Season 10 is a non-celebrity from Noida called Manveer Gurjar.

But what does this victory even mean? Yes, loads of cash, and the fifteen minutes of fame, while you still remain on air. But what really happens after that? You do get a few modelling jobs, a couple of brand endorsements, and perhaps a break in a Bollywood movie (if you are very lucky) or a TV serial. But really, nothing is certain.

Bigg Boss’ criteria for selecting contestants — the celebrities — are washed-up TV actors or models who don't have much of a career left (otherwise why would anyone agree to remain trapped in a house full of cameras for 3 months). Let’s take a look whether any of the previous Bigg Boss winners have made it big after their victory. Perhaps Manveer has something to look forward to.

Season 1: Rahul Roy

The Bollywood actor, whose claim to fame was the hit 90s romantic move Ashiqui, doesn't really have much to brag about post-Bigg Boss. While he has still managed to act in some B-grade movies, that's not something anyone would like to talk about in public (Shhh!).

Season 2: Ashutosh Kaushik

The prodigal winner of Roadies and subsequently Bigg Boss faded into oblivion after a few inconsequential brand endorsements. Sure he has been cast into movies, but in rather small roles. His biggest break would have to be the Zila Ghaziabad (which was horrifyingly bad as far as gangland movies go) followed by Shortcut Romeo and Kismat Love Paisa Dilli, for which he was even praised (really?).

Season 3: Vindu Dara Singh

The son of the legendary actor and wrestler Dara Singh, Vindu has never quite managed to live up to his father’s Hanuman reputation. While Vindiu Dara Singh has a fairly successful career, as a supporting actor in various movies (mostly comedies), his Bigg Boss fame seems to have little to do with it. In fact, he enjoyed more fame during the IPL spot-fixing contoversy.

Season 4: Shweta Tiwari

The Kasautii Zindagii Kay star has been a part of other reality TV shows, though the highlight of her career remains the Ekta Kapoor daily soap. The low-budget film roles speak for themselves.

Season 5: Juhi Parmar

Another actor famous for being in a K-Serial, Juhi Parmar too has only Kumkum to show as a career highlight, which of course was pre-Bigg Boss. To be fair, Parmar has been a part of several reality TV shows. They too, however, were before Bigg Boss.

Season 6: Urvashi Dholakia

Dholakia too, like the previous two, came from the fame of Ekta Kapoor soaps (she, however, was a vamp). But post her Bigg Boss victory; she has not been very visible, mostly doing blink-and-miss roles of late.

Season 7: Gauahar Khan

A moderately famous model and actor, Gauhar Khan, after her Bigg Boss victory, did not mange to do more than bag a few small roles in low-budget productions like Kyaa Kool Hain Hum 3 and Fever.

Season 8: Gautam Gulati

The list of washed-out television actors keep growing. Gulati, most famous for his role in Diya Aur Baati Hum has only one significant thing to show after his Bigg Boss victory: playing the role of Ravi Shastri in the Emraan Hashmi-starrer biopic Ahzar.

Season 9: Prince Narula

This Mr Punjab winner on PTC was also mostly a non-celebrity before Bigg Boss happened to him. He managed to bag a couple of other reality TV offers, including Roadies. Perhaps, he may still make something of this.

Going by the entire list, it seems unlikely that Manveer will go on to become anything more than a local celebrity, attending festivals in Noida in the next couple of years. Well, at least he has the prize money.
