Bigg Boss 11 blog: Luv Tyagi’s eviction shows this season is biased against commoners

It was very interesting to see that Luv was lagging behind Vikas by only 35 votes.

With Luv Tyagi’s eviction on Sunday, it is now clear that unlike last season, which was won by commoner Manveer Gurjar, this season the winner’s trophy is not likely to be bagged by any commoner. With only one week left for the grand finale, it is now a clear contest among Shilpa Shinde, Hina Khan and Vikas Gupta, all three associated with the television industry. For commoners like Puneesh Sharma and Akash Dadlani, who are still fighting it out, reaching the top five will be considered as a grand feat.

Commoners’ 55 per cent vs celebrities’ 79 per cent

On Sunday, after Luv got evicted from the house, Bigg Boss organised a live voting contest between the celebrity camp and the commoner camp. Puneesh represented the commoners’ camp and laid out the reasons for why a commoner should win the show. For a commoner, the journey starts long before entering the house, he said, as commoners have to apply and go through various stages of auditions to enter the house. Then after entering, it’s an uphill task to compete with popular faces from various walks of the life, without having any prior experience of facing the camera.

On the other hand, Hina represented the case for the celebrities. The fan base is a baggage inside the house, said Hina, as it can be lost just by one “misplaced” action or word. She said it is another struggle to shed the celebrity aura and fight as a contestant inside the house. While Puneesh received 55 per cent live votes, Hina received 79 per cent of them, revealing the fact that the divide can never be bridged.

Was the divide always there?

After the divide between the celebrities and the commoners reared its head during the Ticket to Finale task, it was said several times that there was no such divide when the show began. But was it for real? The fight between Shilpa Shinde and Vikas Gupta was a crowd-puller in the initial episodes of the season. Shilpa Shinde as former Angoori Bhabhi in Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai! was a popular face and her fallout with the production house, for which she left the show, was also not unknown. It was only after the duo entered the house that the viewers came to know that the show’s creative producer Vikas Gupta was behind the fallout. While this celeb-fight pushed the show up on the TRP ladder, their changing dynamics inside the house, made them immune as they never had to try to entertain the viewers. The duo occasionally lending support to each other, Salman Khan asking Vikas to work with Shilpa Shinde in future were entertaining enough.

Luv fought a lost battle quite well

It was a lost battle for Delhi-based Luv Tyagi and he knew it. It was speculated that Bigg Boss wanted to pull the strings to keep Vikas Gupta in the show. That’s why the organisers went for live voting at a Vashi mall. The counting of the votes was done on Sunday and it was very interesting to see that Luv was lagging behind Vikas by only 35 votes. Shilpa topped with 660 votes. Hina received 464 votes, while Vikas got 428 and Luv was left behind with 393 votes. Had it been an online vote from all-over India like every other elimination, Vikas might have been evicted.

Commoners fan base not organised

From the very beginning, there were fan clubs pitching for celebrities like Shilpa Shinde, Hina Khan, Hiten Tejwani etc. For commoners, there were obviously no such concerted efforts, as nobody could understand who would be able to survive. And nobody expected Luv, Puneesh and Akash to make it to the semi-final.
