Bigg Boss 12: Did Sreesanth attempt suicide after match-fixing allegations?

When public figures are caught in controversies, we often hear them pleading not guilty or rubbishing allegations levelled against them, but what we often do not get to know is how they deal with the tough times on a personal level.

Bigg Boss Season 12 contestant and former cricketer Sreesanth has seen many ups and downs in the 35 years of his life. He has been seen publicly slapped by cricketer Harbhajan Singh and then sobbing inconsolably in front of the cameras — an embarrassing sight for any grown up.

The worst, however, hit the pacer when he was charged with match-fixing.

Did the fixing allegations drive Sreesanth to the edge of suicide? How did his family react to the developments?

In a preview teaser for tonight’s show, the former cricketer can be heard telling a group of Bigg Boss inmates that he was so broken by the allegations that he attempted suicide. He also says that his father was also badly hit when the grave charges were levelled against Sreesanth.

He also says that his mother went into depression at that time.

He stated that he was innocent, yet the authorities allegedly accused him of match-fixing which involved a sum of Rs 10 lakh.

Sreesanth is seen breaking into sobs even as the other contestants try to calm him down.

Sreesanth and two other Rajasthan Royals players were banned for life over alleged involvement in betting and spot-fixing following a 2013 scandal in the Indian Premier League.

Sreesanth, Ankit Chavan and Ajit Chandila were arrested along with scores of bookies as part of a probe into allegations that players had under-performed in return for cash.

While the criminal charges were later dropped, the players remained banned for breaching the BCCI’s code of conduct.

Later, the Kerala High Court acquitted Sreesanth for lack of proof ordering the ban against him be lifted, but the BCCI decided to challenge the verdict.

Sreesanth, who is 13 short of 100 Test wickets, has played 27 Tests and 53 one-day internationals since making his debut in 2005.

The teaser of the show has dropped enough indications that this could well be the most interesting episode of the show so far. Cricket controversies do get us hooked on to TV sets like nothing else, given how revered the sport is in India.

Revelations about  a cricket controversy being played out on Bigg Boss does promise a lot of masala with much needed information.
