DailyOh! Chirag Paswan is out of the jungle, but why have Rekha Sharma’s tweets gone into hiding

The LJP leader, who claims to be the lion’s cub, has promised a Kota-like coaching city and a grand Sita temple.

Lock your lockers tight before a theft has taken place because nothing is left to be saved after all has been taken. National Commission for Women (NCW) chief Rekha Sharma has deleted all her tweets and locked her Twitter profile after all that she had tweeted has been read and saved as screenshots to be re-read.

If you haven’t read Sharma’s tweets, you have missed out on jokes Sharma cracked on women and politicians, including country’s PM Narendra Modi and Delhi’s CM Arvind Kejriwal.

People got to digging up Sharma’s old tweets after she met Maharashtra Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari to discuss the "rise" in 'love jihad' cases in the state. What came out of the discussion if unknown, what came out of the digging, however, is now widely known. For now, Sharma’s profile has gone into hiding. But guess who is out of the jungle? LJP leader Chirag Paswan.

Not that he was hiding but Paswan claimed to have come out of the jungle in style, like a lion’s cub, while releasing his party manifesto this morning.

The cub won’t come out of the jungle in style. The cub belongs to the jungle so there is a possibility it strays out by mistake. The jungle analogy could have been misplaced. All Chirag Paswan wanted was to compare himself to a cub and his deceased father Ram Vilas Paswan to the lion.

What has the lion’s son, who also claims to be Hanuman, promised in the manifesto? A Kota-like coaching city and a grand Sita temple because education bhi, religion bhi.

Of the 243 seats in Bihar, the Lokniti-CSDS pre-poll survey predicts LJP could win 2-6 seats. The NDA is expected to get between 133 and 143 seats and the Mahagathbandhan about 88-98. This is nothing compared to the number of people coronavirus will be able to infect at the mass rallies all parties are holding. PM Modi, who yesterday confirmed to us that Covid is still around and so we can’t be careless, will address his first public rally on October 23. He will then address 11 more. BJP members are looking forward to the rally. We are told their enthusiasm is nowhere close to the enthusiasm of the virus. Who told us? Next question please.

The virus is having a field day not just in Bihar but is headed for a couple of field days in West Bengal too. The Calcutta High Court has given some relief to puja organisers days after declaring all pandals as no-entry zones. Not more than 45 people can gather at any given time even in the larger pandals. There are rules. There are violations. And then there are infections.

There is also air pollution. A State of Global Air (SOGA) Report, 2020, says 16,67,000 people died in India in 2019 due to pollution. Pollution, the report said, led to strokes, heart attacks, diabetes, lung cancer, chronic lung diseases and neonatal diseases. If the news has left you unsettled, we don’t recommend breathing deep in and out. Not if you're in a gas-chamber-like big city, that is.

In some more news that can leave you wanting for fresh air, Apple iPhone 12 Pro is selling its base variant at Rs 1,19,900. You may say, what’s the big deal, Apples are costly and so are Apple Inc's phones? Well, the big deal is that Apple has made the iPhone 12 Pro deal the costliest in India. In Dubai, the same phone is selling for Rs 84,000. So it is cheaper for you to go and buy the phone in Dubai than buy it in India. You’ll get the phone, plus a trip to Dubai (which is open to Indians, by the way). Now, this does not include the stay part. Just go, buy and come back.

While you could be thinking today should you buy the phone here or in Dubai, Android users have been thinking forever – why buy an iPhone. Thoughts are free; phones are not.

Most people these days buy their phones on Amazon and Amazon employees can continue selling stuff from home till June 30, 2021. The offer was earlier valid till January 2021. The offer, of course, doesn’t apply to delivery guys. Talking of delivery guys, a 22-year-old Amazon delivery guy has been arrested because instead of delivering the phone to the customer, who had bought it, he sold it to another man. He told the customer that the order has been cancelled.

Oh, today happens to be Police Commemoration Day, a day to remember those fallen in the line of duty. Police, the Word Of The Day, comes from Latin word politia. Politia means state or government. Police is an organisation which ensures laws made by the state are followed by people. You have seen them breaking the law too but you can’t do anything about it because you aren’t the police. And the police are police, not ‘thulla’. In case of a doubt, check with Arvind Kejriwal.

Forget Kejriwal for now. Let’s talk Shammi Kapoor because it’s his birth anniversary after all. Shammi was an out-and-out entertainer; you may also be aware of his love for internet. Shammi spent most part of the fag end of his life discovering the wonders of the internet. It was internet which helped Shammi connect with a friend after 50 years. You may not understand what’s the big deal about it if you are born in an age when it is impossible to avoid people even if you want to because you keep bumping into them on the internet.

But Shammi was born in 1931 and then went on to be the founder and chairman of Internet Users Community of India. He was also instrumental in setting up the Ethical Hackers Association. But let us get back to the story. The story of Shammi and Afzal. Shammi and Afzal were neighbours in Mumbai’s Matunga. They went to the same school and played together after school. In 1947, Afzal went to Pakistan with his family. For 50 years, they did not hear from each other. Then in 1997, Shammi got an email from Afzal.

Shammi said in an interview, he cried over that email. We no longer write emails because we can simply DM. At one point we gave up writing letters because we could simply email. Some of us are simply not bothered about any of these or any of those things. Respect!

The other birthday boy today is Farooq Abdullah. He spent a couple of hours of his big day at the Enforcement Directorate office in connection with the multi-crore scam in the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA). It has been alleged that between 2002 and 2011, over Rs 43 crore were siphoned off from the JKCA coffers. This money was part of the Rs 112 crore grant given by BCCI to JKCA.

So, the birthday wasn’t all about a visit to ED office, Farooq Abdullah also took out some time to play golf.

Nothing more important than health, you may say, till the contest is set against wealth. And you can forget all contests when it comes to food. Our recommendation today, laced with the recipe, is Khow Suey.

That will be all for today.

See you tomorrow.
