DailyOh! When Nehru quit CWC, to how Siddharth and Neeraj raised doubts over Sushant’s death

DailyOh! When Nehru quit CWC, to how Sidharth Pithani and Neeraj raised doubts over Sushant’s death

It rained resignation offers at the Congress Working Committee (CWC) meeting today with nobody actually resigning but everybody affirming faith in what the Congress stands for. Interim Party Chief Sonia Gandhi had offered to resign, while veteran leader Ghulam Nabi Azad had threatened to do so. By evening, the Congress Parivar, the extended one beyond the Gandhis, was one big happy family with no resignations being accepted.

With time at hand on the weekend, 23 Congress leaders made public a letter they wrote together, Congress knows when. We mean one person wrote and the others signed it because how can 23 write the same letter. The letter demanded that CWC hold elections that were last held in the 1990s and that the party find a full-time party chief. This is reported to have incensed the interim chief, Sonia Gandhi, who offered to resign.

Everybody’s wanted Chief, Rahul Gandhi, reportedly questioned the motive of the letter along with its timing. Why do this when the party is at its weakest? He is reported to have said those who wrote the letter are working in collusion with the BJP.

If the party is at its weakest, it can’t go weaker, so enjoy the weekend and not waste it writing letters and making them public. Good advice; only, Rahul didn’t offer it.

Did Rahul allude to a ‘collusion with BJP’ charge? Randeep Singh Surjewala, the internal fact-checker of Congress, said Rahul made no such remark. Just yesterday, he said Sonia hadn’t offered to resign.

But today Kapil Sibal and Ghulam Nabi Azad took offence to the charge, before the clarification came, with Azad offering to resign if the charge was proven right. To begin with, the challenge is to prove the charge was made. So, just after expressing anger over the charge, both Azad and Sibal denied the existence of it.

The tweet that Kapil Sibal deleted.

All is well that ends well? Yes, except that for one man it ended in blood. Congress councillor Sandeep Tanwar wrote a letter in his own blood asking Sonia to make Rahul Gandhi the Congress president. You can't put back into to your veins the blood you have extracted from it, especially if you have used the extracts to pen a letter. One man surely wasn't 'colluding' with the BJP and his mind. Did others do it? According to Divya Spandana, not only did they collude with the BJP, but also the media. Her proof? The minute-by-minute leaks of meeting minutes.

The CBI meanwhile has said it has dummy test proof to prove that it is possible Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide because there was enough space between the ceiling fan and the floor for him to hang. The agency is now investigating whether the actor hanged himself or was hanged. We will get back to that investigation in a bit because we need to get back to the Congress collusion charge investigation for now.

The man who reportedly made and then did not make the charge, however, has found support to take over as the Congress chief from unexpected quarters – the BJP. Many BJP supporters flooded social media platforms in support of Rahul, seeing this as a way to prolong BJP’s stay in power.

So, though they might appear to be in collusion with Rahul Gandhi, they are working only as BJP loyalists. Just the same day the collusion conundrum hit Congress, Shashi Tharoor decided to remember BJP leader Arun Jaitley. One year ago, on this day, Jaitley died.

Tharoor is one of the 23 letter writers. Is the remembrance a sign of his collusion? We can’t say, because why say what you can’t prove. But what does the word collusion tell us about colluders?

Collusion, the Word Of The Day, comes from Latin vern ludere, which means ‘to play’. Collude is a combination of ‘col’ meaning ‘with’ or ‘together’, and ‘ludere’ meaning to play. Oxford dictionary defines collusion as, “to work together secretly or illegally in order to trick other people”. So when you play with others, you are harmless; but when you play tricks to trick others is when you are colluding and harmful. Everyone is asking how much more harm can be done to the Congress apart from one man? The man couldn’t have cared mor.

The peacock is believed to be an old visitor and resident of 7, Lok Kalyan Marg (formerly 7, Race Course Road), apart from Prime Ministers of India. This reminds us of a former Prime Minister who once was so miffed with the CWC that he quit it. Yes, the man we are talking about is Jawaharlal Nehru.

A power struggle had erupted in the Congress in 1950; Purushottam Das Tandon staked claim to be the Congress chief. What worked for Tandon was exactly what Nehru couldn’t oppose – support from Vallabhbhai Patel. There were two more contenders - Acharya JB Kripalani and Shankarrao Deo. Nehru didn’t like them either. But in his grading of dislike, Tandon was right at top.

A power struggle erupted in 1950 when Tandon, backed by Patel, staked claim to the post.

Tandon still got elected. Nehru put a condition that his cabinet colleague Rafi Ahmed Kidwai be inducted in CWC. We are guessing the Tandon dislike chart too had Nehru on top because he did not honour Nehru’s wish. Kidwai quit the Congress and Nehru threatened to leave CWC. Tandon then made Kidwai quit from the Cabinet, which he had continued to be a member of despite having left Congress.

In 1951, Nehru said ‘enough is enough’ and resigned from CWC. Later, Tandon also resigned. In October 1951, Nehru returned as Congress president. The rest is history as is the part we told you about.

In the present, the BJP may be enjoying Congress’s leadership battle but the state of economy doesn’t reflect too well on BJP’s leadership too.

Aatmanirbhar Skilled Employee Employer Mapping, which was launched on July 11, has so far seen 69,00,000 people register on it. How many got jobs? Only 7,700. The government says there are jobs but the low numbers are because of profile mismatch. The list of aspirants is topped by self-employed tailors, electricians, sewing machine operators among others. The list of recruitment requirements is topped by courier delivery executives, manual cleaners and sales associates. So, Prime Minister Narendra Modi needs to address the youth’s need for jobs after he has addressed the mor’s need for daana.

For now, the CBI is looking into the demand for justice for Sushant Singh Rajput. To be fair, CBI is looking for proof to establish how exactly Sushant died.

In its lookout bid, the CBI has found glaring contradictions in the statements of Sushant’s friend Siddharth Pithani and cook Neeraj. Neeraj said Pithani was calm when Sushant didn’t open the door. Pithani told investigators he was very worried. Maybe he is good at hiding his inner turmoil. Neeraj also said Pithani was in no hurry and waited for the locksmith, who came to open the door, to leave. Pithani said he was very worried and hence in a hurry. So how will the agency know who is lying and who not? The CBI is expected to grill those in the house at the time of the incident together.

So the matter remains open for probe but one matter has been closed for now by Sushant’s father KK Singh’s lawyer Vikas Singh. Vikas Singh has said what Kangana Ranaut is saying about the case has no connection with the case. What is Kangana saying? Nepo kids ‘killed’ Sushant. According to Singh, nepotism exists in all fields, including Bollywood, but is not what led to the death.

CBI is scrutinising what led to the death and Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates believes it is okay for tech companies to face scrutiny from the government. Why? “Because they deserve it.”

Does not apologising make Prashant Bhushan deserving of punishment? That matter is pending with the court, with Bhushan, held guilty of contempt of court, telling the court that retracting the statement would mean contempt of conscience.

Where the road to ‘no apology’ will take Bhushan is difficult to say, but the "Dil Ki Purani Sadak" could lead to some more brickbats for Sadak 2. Not that the song is bad, but that this is a season for brickbats.

We will leave you with "Dil Ki Purani Sadak" for now.

Be back tomorrow.
