Covid Third Wave to peak in India Jan-end? 4 updates
India recorded more than 2 lakh Covid cases in 24 hours on January 13, for the first time in almost a year. Meanwhile, an expert has said that the third wave may peak in India in January-end.

On January 13, for the first time in nearly 8 months, India recorded 2,47,417 new cases in 24 hours. The country also registered 481 new Covid-19 related deaths in the last 24 hours.

India's Omicron Tally has also nearly reached 5,500 with 12 states recording a total higher than 100. Seeing such numbers across the world, the WHO has warned countries against treating Covid-19's Omicron variant as an endemic illness, but instead to treat it as a pandemic.

2.COVID CASES MAY PEAK IN END-JANUARY-EARLY FEBURARY
In an interview with India Today TV, Professor Bhramar Mukherjee, a data scientist and epidemiologist at the University of Michigan said that India's Covid-19 cases may peak in late January and that some states may peak in the next 7 days. Mukherjee said, "In the next seven or ten days, we will see that there will be a slowdown in terms of the growth trajectory. I am hopeful the test-positivity rate has really lowered slightly. I am hopeful some of the states are going to peak in the next seven days. India might peak in late January."
3. HEALTH MINISTRY SAYS 157.36 CRORE VACCINE PROVIDED TO STATES
The Union Health Ministry said on January 13 that they have provided states and UTs with 157.36 crore vaccine doses up until now. Out of this, more than 15.75 crore balance and unutilised vaccine doses are still available with states and UTs.

4. COVAXIN CAN NEUTRALISE DELTA AND OMICRON
On January 12, Bharat Biotech said that a study conducted by Emory University has proved that a booster dose of Covaxin can neutralise the effect of Covid-19's Delta and Omicron variant. The study showed that when subjects received a booster dose of Covaxin six months after getting a primary two-dose series, the booster dose was able to neutralise the effect of the Omicron and Delta variant in the subject's body.

In context to vaccines, Moderna Inc said on January 12 that it expected to report data from its Covid-19 vaccine trials among children between the ages of 2 and 5 in March 2022.
