Covid Third Wave: Fewer cases, new nasal spray in India

India reported 6% fewer cases yesterday than the previous day; 67,084 fresh Covid cases. As per the Health Ministry data, the country’s daily positivity rate is 4.44%.

1. INDIA’S COVID NUMBERS

India has recorded 67,084 new Covid cases over the last 24 hours. The active caseload currently stands at 7,90,789.

As per the data available, the country’s weekly positivity rate remains at 6.58%.

1,67,882 people have recovered from the virus yesterday.

15,11,321 Covid tests were conducted on February 9.

The daily death toll still remains a concern as 1,242 fatalities were reported over the past 24 hours.

2. INDIA’S FIRST COVID NASAL SPRAY

Glenmark Pharmaceuticals in collaboration with the Canadian pharmaceutical company SaNOtize Research and Development Corp has developed India’s first nasal spray against Covid-19 infection. The FabiSpray Nitric Oxide Nasal Spray meant for adult Covid patients launched on Wednesday in India.

This spray acts as a chemical and physical barrier against the virus by killing it in the upper airways. The spray would be available over the next few weeks and months.

4. NEW COVID CURBS IN TRIPURA

The Tripura government has announced a few new Covid curbs on Wednesday:

  • Night curfew from 11 pm to 5 am
  • Cinemas, spas and gyms will operate at 50% capacity
  • Gatherings with be allowed with 50% capacity only
  • Restaurants can remain open till 10 pm with 50% capacity

5. VACCINE FOR CHILDREN BELOW 5 YEARS IN US

According to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the US government is planning to roll out Covid-19 shots for children under the age of 5 years from February 21. The US Food and Drug Administration is considering the use of the Pfizer Inc and BioNTech SE vaccine for this age group. However, they require more clinical trials for 2 to 4-year-olds.
