  • Is Covid coming back?
  • Will there be a fourth wave?
  • What should we do to stay safe?

Here are the latest updates on the current Covid scenario in India that will answer all your questions.

LATEST COVID UPDATES IN INDIA

1. MORE THAN 2 THOUSAND CASES YESTERDAY

India has reported 2,380 fresh Covid cases in the past 24 hours. There are currently 13,433 active Covid cases in India.

56 new deaths related to the virus have also been reported, as per the Health Ministry data available.

2. NO MASK TO MASKS

After relaxation in Covid cases in India, many states removed all Covid restrictions including wearing a mask. But now, the state governments have revised this rule and made masks compulsory again.

Yesterday, the Delhi government made masks compulsory. Other than the national capital, masks are now mandatory all over again in Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Chandigarh.

3. CASES ON A RISE IN DELHI

On April 1, the Delhi government removed fines for not wearing a mask. And now, Covid cases in Delhi have crossed the big triple-zero number.

A spike in Covid cases has been reported in the national capital with 1,009 fresh cases in the last 24 hours.

As an attempt to control these alarming numbers, the Delhi government has now implemented a fine of Rs 500 for not wearing a mask.

Schools in Delhi will remain open for now.

4. OMICRON REMAINS THE DOMINANT VARIANT

Earlier, two unconfirmed cases of the XE variant were reported in India.

Delhi, accounting for 50% of the total cases reported yesterday, continues to report cases of the Omicron variant. There are no cases of the Delta variant now.

In a DDMA meeting on Wednesday, the Delhi Health Department informed that Omicron is the dominant variant in the national capital.

Samples of Covid positive individuals are further being investigated to check for variants like XE.

5. 53 OUT OF 56 DEATHS FROM KERALA

As per the official data, out of the total 56 Covid fatalities, Kerala is responsible for 53 deaths. Delhi, Mizoram and Odisha have reported one death each.

WHAT SHOULD YOU DO?

Initially, it was hard to make people wear masks and follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. Removing restrictions right after a slight relief is already showing us the consequences.

As cases increase in different states, it is wise to follow all Covid precautions.

At this point, thanks to the government for making masks compulsory.

Since Covid is not over yet, do not ignore the symptoms of the infection; and avoid spreading it to others.

ARE CHILDREN UNDER THREAT?

After re-opening of schools, many students tested positive; especially in Uttar Pradesh. Symptoms in children are usually mild. But it is of utmost importance to safeguard kids from the deadly virus.

Therefore, make sure that the kids too wear a mask all the time. Also, avoid sending them to schools if they are experiencing any symptoms.

The fourth wave seems to have started its march towards the country. So, mask up and stay indoors.
