Wordle will have 2 answers daily, thanks to NYT: What all has changed

What was your Wordle answer yesterday? Aroma or agora?

Yes, for the first time since Wordle came into existence, there were two different answers for the game.

The internet’s favourite word game Wordle allows you to guess one word each day in 6 attempts. But on Tuesday (February 15), people shared different answers at the same time.

How is that possible? Is the game broken? Let’s solve the puzzle for you.

The New York Times bought the online game Wordle from its founder Josh Wardle in January 2022. The massively successful game has just ONE solution per day.

After the big acquisition, The New York Times changed a few original solutions, starting February 15. They have eliminated a few words.

So, the word agora (supposed to be the solution for Tuesday’s puzzle) was eliminated by the NYT.

Now the players are divided into two different categories: a) who play the game on The New York Times site; and b) people who play on the original powerlanguage site.

If you refresh the old link or open it in a new window, you will be redirected to the NYT's Wordle site. But if you continue to use the old URL, on the same window, without any refresh, you will get the old puzzle.

So, for the old players, agora was the answer. However, the NYT’s solution was aroma.

Now you know the reason why there were two answers on Tuesday. And this difference will continue if you play through the two different links.

Basically, NYT's answer today will be the orignal's answer tomorrow (because NYT eliminated the word agora in between).

BUT WHY THE CHANGE?

The New York Times has said that they have removed a few words from the original puzzle which they found to be rude or offensive.

“We are updating the word list over time to remove obscure words to keep the puzzle accessible to more people, as well as insensitive or offensive words. Eventually, we will permanently redirect users to the NYTimes.com URL, at which point everyone should be playing the same version, as long as they refresh their browsers,” Jordan Cohen, spokesman for The New York Times said in a statement.

HOW IS THE NEW VERSION DIFFERENT?

There are very minute changes in the game after the change in ownership. The font of ‘Wordle’ written on the top has changed to reflect the NYT's. Also in the menu, you can see links to other New York Times games.

Other than the appearance, people are quite disappointed with the answers. For example, today’s solution. Twitter users are highly disappointed with today’s puzzle.

Here are some reactions-

But, but, but... in reality, there is no change. Yes, the NYT puzzle is not harder.

Earlier, Josh Wardle explained that the daily word is predetermined and not picked daily. He and his wife Palak Shah have listed 2,500 words that are already listed in the game’s code. So, we are still guessing the words decided by Josh and Palak.

NYT only eliminated some.

Now, you know the reason behind the big confusion. For those trying to solve today's puzzle: You will be disappointed or frustrated in the end. Don't forget to share your scores.
