It's official, Times of India's tweet on Trump just endorsed his sexism

You do not expect the redoubtable Times of India to set standards in equality and spirit of gender sensitivity, but occasionally you do expect the world's largest circulating English language daily to at least respect the moment, and shut the hel up. But no. The Times of India, indeed, like the man it chose to congratulate with such glee today, made the endorsement one more feather in its much-feathered cap of revolting sexism.

Sample this this from the official TOI handle. [Unless they have deleted it, the screenshot is embedded below; but looks like it's a free rein on misogyny today; so they haven't bothered deleting it. Bet it's going to stay on, as a commemorative, apt souvenir of the day when Donald Trump of the locker-room talk stable was voted in as the next Presdent-Elect of the United States of America by a stunning majority of hardly closet sexists.]

In case, you were wondering what made the TOI stoop to this level, let's refresh your memory (and TOI's mamamries) with these lovely snippets of its past glories, when it frontpaged a "wardrobe malfunction" of the Hollywoodised variety when Kate Middleton - the Duchess of Cambridge and whatever that means, the next to next Queen of England - paid her respects at the Amar Jawan Jyoti.

Or, when it zoomed in on Deepika Padukone's "cleavage", well, lo behold, to discover, what? BREASTS! Ladies and gentlemen, Times of Boobs needs to suckle at the teats of institutional misogyny like a newborn needs its nourishing mother.

No wonder then in Donald Trump, TOI feels as liberated and as tabloidised as it can possibly. Of course, under the sex-scandal-free reign of Barack Obama, US presidential reportage had become banal and all too drily political. Who cares about his hobnobs with Fidel Castro when you can castrate the US president with this one emphatic declaration of intent?

We are utterly thankful to TOI for saying it like it is. Truly, the times are of grabbing it by the well whatever... Vaginas are gagged today, to be plundered later. But for now, it may be important to reiterate what Australia's Department of Tourism had said of the Trump factor.
