Amazon India sale has a lot to offer, but you may want to wait for Flipkart

There's nothing more satisfying than buying things on sale! Fortunately, for people who prefer e-commerce to regular shopping, a massive sale does not involve the jostling, sweating and grumbling with fellow sale-goers (online shopaholics would completely agree, or perhaps not). Well, we'll will find out soon. The Amazon Great India Sale is on and today is the second day of it (continues till May 14 midnight). And it is being said that there's something for everyone.

However, Amazon is not the only place you can fulfil your consumer-driven dreams. Flipkart is going to celebrate its 10-year anniversary with the “The Big 10 sale” starting May 14. According to various reports, the sale is planning on offering discounts up to 90 per cent on a wide range of products.

And to complete the trifecta, in its two-day mega sale on May 11-12, Snapdeal, as a part of its “Unbox Dhamaka Sale”, will offer up to 70 per cent discount on categories including home, fashion and electronics.

So what are the best deals you can get your hands on?

For the Amazon sale, it makes complete sense to have a Prime account. If you don’t have one yet, it’s only Rs 500 per year, and you get Prime Videos along with it. Seriously, just get the Prime subscription already. For Prime members, not only will the sale shipping be free, with deliveries that can be made in one or two days, Prime users will also get access to all the top deals almost 30 minutes prior to the non-Prime member during the Great Indian Sale.

Furthermore, it is also advisable to use Amazon Pay. During the three-day sale, Amazon will hold a contest for the Amazon Pay users which will give them a chance to win a sum of Rs 1 lakh. Additionally, if you plan to do your shopping from the mobile application, you will get a discount offer of up to 15 per cent on all products purchased during the sale.

One of the best offers this sale has is on headphones. The JBL C300SI On-Ear Dynamic Wired Headphones which costs Rs 3,000 can be all yours for a mere 799 bucks.

If you were ever planning to buy an iPhone, and have been dicey about the prices, this is your time to make hay. The iPhone 7 (32GB) is available at a discount of Rs 16,000 and can be yours for Rs 43,999. The iPhone 5S (16GB) has a 36 per cent off and is now available for Rs 15,999. The iPhone SE (32GB) that costs Rs 27,200 is now available for Rs 20,999. A 23 per cent discount is not something to be taken lightly.

Even Samsung Galaxy C7 Pro (64GB) that costs Rs 29,999 is now available at a 13 per cent discount for just Rs 25,999. In terms of affordable phones, the Samsung On7 Pro can be yours Rs 8,740, at a beautiful 22 per cent discount. Additionally, the Moto G4 Plus (16 GB) is available for Rs 11,499 (a Rs 2,000 discount), and the Moto G4 Play can be bought for Rs 7,999 (a Rs 1,000 discount).

Amazon’s sale is also offering a Rs 16,999 discount on the Nikon D7000 DSLR along with 18-105mm kit lens, a leather camera bag and SD card. There is also another massive discount of  Rs 26,417 discount on the purchase of Nikon D7100 along with 18-105mm kit lens.

For the Flipkart sale, while specifics are not out yet, there are some things that one can definitely expect. According to reports, Flipkart has said that it will provide the lowest price for Apple iPhone 7. The company will also offer Google Pixel for Rs 34,999 that costs Rs 57,000. That’s a flat Rs 13,001, along with up to Rs 9,000 off in exchange offers. There is also word of the biggest Redmi Note 4 sale.

Of course, there will be deals on other smartphones as well. Overall, while the Amazon (and hopefully the Flipkart sale too will have) sale has a lot to offer, the nature of online sales has changed over the years.

Both Amazon and Flipkart in their sales have started focussing more on the sale of exclusive brands online. According to an analysis on The Economic Times, brands are ensuring that they have a strategy for such sale events to ensure they do not impact brick-and-mortar sales like earlier days. Also, brands have started entering into a pricing and discounting agreement with the marketplaces for products that are also sold in offline retail, so that there is no predatory discounting on them.
