Oops! When Miss Universe 2015 pageant became the butt of all jokes

This year, the Miss Universe pageant rapidly became a stage show of "misinformation" when the host Steve Harvey made an unbelievable error in declaring the wrong candidate - Miss Colombia Ariadna Gutierrez - as the winner of the prestigious crown.

To everyone's surprise and and hardly unfeigned shock, the organisers went ahead with even the crowning ceremony before they realised what a faux pas has been committed, wait, live on television! Miss Philippines Pia Alonzo Wurtzbach was later announced as the correct winner of the Miss Universe 2015 title, much to everyone's disbelief and exchange of hushed whispers.

This awkward moment soon became the fodder of Twitter jokes and memes with social media users having a field day commenting on this hilarious mistake.

Embarrassment and humiliation gave away to funny one-liners and parodies of Steve Harvey's "apology", which went like this: "I'd like to apologise wholeheartedly to Miss Colombia and Miss Philippines for my huge mistake. I feel terrible."
