The innocuous raincoat was literally caught in the rain (of words) and then wrung dry following Prime Minister Narendra Modi's latest jibe at his predecessor Manmohan Singh.
While a much-irked Congress has demanded that Modi apologises for using such “ugly” language against a former PM, not everybody seems to agree that the comment was entirely unacceptable.

Here's how Twitter — the ultimate umbrella organisation for grievance redressal — was flooded with people defending their Prime Minister.
Sorry but Nobody has insulted d Prime Minister more than you. Remember tearing d ordinance in a Press con. Unless u think you are Royalty. https://t.co/BTPY5LX2yr

Modiji was gracious enough to visit MMS home after becoming PM.But MMS invited this #raincoat comment, by his frequent loose/harsh remarks.

Honest Man MMS helped #VijayMallya get away. #raincoat remark hurts ? His silence did hurt us during UPA régime. Both are liars.

@OfficeOfRG And, when you call a incumbent PM for years #MautKaSaudagar then it is alright Your vanity needs humility Mr. Rahul Gandhi

Congress is actually worried coz Modi has leaked their survival plan post 2019 of selling MMS raincoats. Try Pappu pajamas now! #raincoat

Rahul Gandhi had torn the ordinance of Manmohan Singh govt. by calling it nonsense. Wasn’t that an insult of the Prime Minister? pic.twitter.com/3KsPfqBoDv

PM comment on #ManmohanSingh both apt and funny. And MMS is ex PM, not a baby that everyone has to turn protective. Let MMS defend himself.

@ExSecular @ANI_news I guess this was OK. @MallikarjunINC must appologize to the entire nation for this Insult. pic.twitter.com/1HVxWaMkJD

Manmohan was UPA's #raincoat as it raped public coffers. Doubt Modi referred urban dictionary before using the word

@anupamamathur1 Not only as a PM but he is also a a stain on the dignity of Sikhs. He behaves like a doddering fool and a coward

Calling Prime Minister Hitler, Mussolini, Gaddafi & using terms like 'kutta' during Parliamentary proceedings reflect mindset of Congress.

As the ruling BJP and the Congress enter another war of words over something which hardly matters to the common man, we wonder if it's the raincoat which should actually take offence, forget the taxpayers losing money on House squabbles.
