It often becomes quite irritating when your Instagram feed is filled with everything, other than posts from the people you have followed. The Instagram algorithm completely destroyed this experience for us. Our feeds were filled with too many posts from the rest of the world and we often end up thinking: Am I following this page?
Well, this issue will no longer bother you. Starting March 23, Instagram brought back the old layout, where the posts in your feed will appear in reverse chronological order. So, the posts will no longer be ranked according to the platform’s algorithms. And you will see the most recent post first.
This format will be followed by Instagram worldwide. Instagram has also revealed that it will leave its algorithm ranking method on by default.
THERE IS MORE
Luckily, this is not the only update.
There is a new following and favourite option too on our main feed. Instagram will now allow you give priority to your favourite people in your following list.
You will now have two ways to organise your feed. There will be two options:
FOLLOWING: In this manner, you can see posts of the people you follow in reverse chronological order. This is the classic Instagram pattern where you see the latest post on the top.
FAVOURITE: For this, you need to create a favourite list, just like the one for your close friends. Add people as per your preference in the favourite list and you will see only their posts from latest to oldest. You can add up to 50 people in the favourite list. People will not be notified whenever to add or delete them from this list.
During the senate hearing last year about the impact of Instagram on teens, this change was first introduced by Instagram Head, Adam Mosseri. This change resolves concerns over how sometimes the social media app exposes younger generation to content that can be harmful to their mental health.
"We're always working on new ways for people to have more control over their experience on Instagram, and giving you ways to quickly see what you're most interested in is one example of those efforts," a spokesperson for Meta, which owns Instagram, told CNN Business.
