[Image of the day] Palestinian boy shows the face of love in war

Imagine a world without war, strife and hatred. Is it possible? Perhaps not, for the many vices of our character have always trampled upon a pretty flower, snuffed out an innocent smile and ensured that eyes glistening with love and hope, welled up with tears instead.

Greed and lust for power, money and territory have time and again pitted humans against humans. Wars have thrown societies asunder. But in spite of everything, the spirit of love, compassion and kindness lives on. No bomb or bullet can prevent us from loving fellow beings, for not all of us are touched by hatred.

This is precisely what the image above portrays.

It is a moving image, which has been put up on Facebook. It shows a Palestinian child, burnt by one of the numerous attacks, greeting his friend and former neighbour. The child bears the mark of what humans' hatred for each other can lead to, but the expression on his face speaks a thousand words.

"Affectionate, happy, sad, excited, nostalgic... so wonderfully genuine." That is how the boy's expression has been described in the post.

It begs the question why we can't get over our fixation with power, when we know it only creates alienation and indeed, destruction, especially when the world can be so very different and better.
