This short film narrated by Madonna pays a beautiful tribute to Qandeel Baloch

The film contains footage from videos uploaded by Baloch as well as interviews of her parents.

On July 15, 2016, Pakistan's culture and women suffered a serious blow when model and social media figure Qandeel Baloch was murdered.

She was killed by her own younger brother for tarnishing the family's honour. He confessed to drugging her and then strangling her to death.

In an interview with BBC's Asian Network, Baloch's parents claimed that they had been sedated and thus did not wake to the possible cries of help from the model. Her father expressed his sadness by saying that she was his best friend and his son. Her father Anwar Azeem went on to say, "He should be shot on sight. He suffocated my little one".

Her death cause an onslaught of outrage on the social media, not only in Pakistan, but also in India and across the world. 

Academy Award-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directed a short film, to pay tribute to her. The film called Qandeel Baloch: A Very Short Story debuted at the 2016 Global Citizen Festival. The film was narrated by none other than American singer and actress Madonna.

The film features footage from videos uploaded by Baloch as well as interviews of her parents. 

At the film's debut, Obaid-Chinoy said “All of us need to honor the women who have been killed, whose names we do not know, by calling on all governments to punish all killers of women. The world that we want to leave our girls and our daughters must be much safer than the world we have inherited".
