PM Modi's new address is 7, Lok Kalyan Marg: Twitter reactions

Bye-bye 7 Race Course Road, glory days and long time residence of the Indian Prime Minister.

Hello, erm, Lok Kalyan Marg.

And hello, 7 LKM, henceforth the official residential address of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

There have been many firsts in the two-year Modi realm and this too would be one. Expect paradigm-shifting changes and enormous nomenclature revolution in the days to come.

But nostalgia clouds no desi eyes, even if it was 7RCR where Modi's mother paid him a verdant visit and enjoyed the well-manicured gardens at the PM's residence.

Delhi's famous Race Course Road, relic of the colonial times, precious to Lutyens' tribe, is no more. It was named after the Delhi race course, part of Delhi Race Club, established in 1940.

Renaming, it seems, has been "unanimous", with BJP's Meenakshi Lekhi making the moves just a day back, but crouching as her "Ekatma Marg" (after the philosophy of her party’s ideologue Deendayal Upadhyay) got the boots.

New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), pricked by Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal who wanted RCR "to be named after a martyr", possibly of Punjabi/Sikh origin given the Assembly polls due next year, did a moral tightrope, it seems, balancing BJP's and AAP's ego wars on the battlefield of road names.

Unlike the protracted wars fought over Aurangzeb Road, when we saw the Good Muslim versus Bad Muslim game being played over and over again, pitting the long dead Mughal emperor with the then newly deceased former president APJ Abdul Kalam, RCR suffered a sharp, swift, almost clinically precise execution.

Given that Indian national discourse is mulling a "normal nuclear attack" against enemy number one Pakistan these days, Twitterati is pondering if Lok Kalyan Marg is a suitable answer to the ongoing Uri crisis.

Some are busy comprehending Ms Lekhi's complicated take on "Indian culture", even as other debate the aesthetics of green-lighting a nuclear war from 7 Lok Kalyan Marg.

Many are wondering if more members of the Margdarshak Mandal would be visiting 7 LKM now.
