Twinkle Khanna shares birthday with father Rajesh Khanna, her wishes won our day

The most heart-warming thing the internet offered today, amid news of demonetisation and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's New Year's Eve address to the nation, was a picture shared by actor Twinkle Khanna, in which she has penned a beautiful note of rememberance for her father Rajesh Khanna on his birthday.

Incidentally, Rajesh Khanna, Bollywood's “first superstar”, shares his birthday with daughter Twinkle, who decided to wish her late father on his 74th birth anniversary (and herself on her 43rd) by sharing a monochromatic picture of them on Instagram and Twitter.

“I see you — in my reflection off the back of a gleaming spoon, in a gesture my sister makes, in the arch of my son's eyebrows — I still see you.. #happybirthdaytous,” is how the columnist-turned-author, popularly known as Mrs Funnybones on Twitter, captioned the throwback photograph on Thursday.

Lovingly nicknamed "Kaka", the actor who gave 15 consecutive solo hits — a record which is still unbroken — died on July 18, 2012, in Mumbai. He is remembered for his acting in films such as Anand, Aradhana, Kati Patang, Amar Prem, and Bawarchi.

He married Dimple Kapadia in 1973, and they went on to have two daughters — Twinkle and Rinke.

Wishing loved ones on the social media is a common phenomenon, but this post by Twinkle, who is married to actor Akshay Khanna, instantly brings a smile to the face, and memories of the evergreen actor’s persona to the mind.

Rajesh Khanna, whose real name was Jatin Khanna, was the highest paid actor from 1970-79, after which he was joined by Amitabh Bachchan to share the "title" from 1980-87.

Interestingly, his first-ever flm to be released, Aakhri Khat (1966), was selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 40th Academy Awards. It, however, did not make it to the final list.

Daddy’s girl, Twinkle has often expressed her love and respect for her father, a Padma Bhushan awardee, on public platforms. Earlier this year, she expressed displeasure over Naseeruddin Shah’s comments where he called her father “a poor actor”.

“It was the 70s when mediocrity came in Hindi films. That’s when the actor called Rajesh Khanna joined the industry. For all his success, I think Mr Khanna was a very limited actor. In fact, he was a poor actor. Intellectually, he wasn’t the most alert person I have ever met. His taste ruled the industry,” Shah had reportedly said.

To which she responded on Twitter, “Sir, if u can't respect the living, respect the dead — mediocrity is attacking a man who can't respond."

Meanwhile, the actor is vacationing in Cape Town with husband Akshay, and her best friend, of which she also shared a picture.

Twinkle, is known to win over Twitteratti with her wit, today touched the heart of many with these beautiful lines, which reflect the void she feels in her life.

Hope you had a wonderful day, @MrsFunnyBones.
