5 worst startup pitches on Shark Tank India, from Gol Nabhi to Glass Ka Mask

Shark Tank India has grabbed all the attention these days. The Indian version of the show has been going viral since it made its debut on air. On the show, budding entrepreneurs pitch their business ideas to existing industry giants in order to receive investments. The successful business players are called the Sharks. The pitchers receive investment in exchange for equity of their business.

While there are some pitchers like Jugadu Kamlesh who received love from the whole nation, others are too hard to believe. Some business ideas literally make the judges and the viewers laugh out loud. On the other hand, some contestants with good business ideas pitch it the wrong way. And this makes them leave empty-handed.

If you are wondering what these strange business ideas could be, here’s a list for you. So, no more FOMO!

5 worst pitches on Shark Tank India:

1. BELLY BUTTON SHAPER

Baldev Jumnani and Jayshree Jumnani from Nagpur pitched the funniest yet weirdest product ever. Baldev asked the fantasies of the Sharks first. The question itself left the Sharks stunned. Wait, there is more to it.

He introduced his product: Belly-Button Shaper, or Gol Nabhi (literally: round belly button).

Yes! The man developed a product that apparently gives you a round and deep belly button. The pitch and product made the judges go ROFL. Ashneer Grover and Aman Gupta hid their faces to laugh. Baldev and Jayshree also invited a belly dancer to demonstrate the product.

And this pitch made Ashneer say, "Kar kya rahe ho aap? Thoda serious ho jaeye apni life mein. Mat bechiye aaj ke baad. Aapne iss product pe aadha second bhi spend kiya toh aapki zindagi barbaad ho jaayegi."

Ashneer is known for giving blunt replies to the contestants. He further added, "Don't even take these sample products back and leave them here only."

On the top: There is no evidence supporting this product.

2. PORTABLE GLASS ATTACHMENT

Another pitch that made Ashneer lose his temper was Sippline Drinking Shields' portable glass attachment. So, this man developed a cover for glass rims.

Wondering why he never came across a straw or disposable glasses. Instead, developed a cover for the glass rims.

The founder also called it glass ka mask.

Ashneer just lost it and said, “Bhai kya kar rha hai tu? Do you drink a lot? You took the spot of a deserving candidate and it should be valued.”

Merko bagwaan utha le itna ganda product hai. I would never want to see anything in life after this,” he added.

3. FIBER ICE CREAM

Gopal's 56 developed an ice cream company. It is the first ice cream company that offers fibre-rich ice creams in multiple flavours including ayurvedic ones.

The judges were enjoying their ice creams while listening to the pitch. But suddenly, they had to abandon it. No, there is nothing wrong with the ice cream but the pitch. Gaurav Goyal asked for Rs 300 crore for 25% equity. This makes the company’s valuation around Rs 1,200 crore.

Due to this high demand, Gaurav failed to receive any investment. So in this case, a wrong pitch spoiled the whole mood.

4. TOILET SPRAY WITH ESSENTIAL OILS

We have heard about the use of essential oils on face. But this company, Poo de Cologne, came up with a toilet spray with essential oils meant for the toilet seat. So, the user has to spray this before or after using the toilet.

This product simply increases the work of the user.

This idea failed to impress the Sharks and received zero investment.

5. AUTOMATIC CRADLE

Jhulaa Automation’s automatic cradle costs Rs 1 lakh. Yes, one lakh for one jhula. And the developers invested Rs 25 lakh in making the one and only model.

The model can swing automatically and give alerts to the parents according to the activities of the child.

Even the richest of the rich will wonder why this jhula costs Rs 1 lakh. As mentioned by the judges, there are many other swings available in the market that can function automatically at a fair price.

The show is in its finale week. Let's see if we get to see more of such pitches.
