Daily Recco, October 1: When the Covid-ridden world feels like living in a ghost town

Covid song of the English band The Rolling Stones — Living in a Ghost Town — pretty much sums up our lives in 2020.

While the pandemic brought lives to a complete standstill across the planet, the one silver lining to the very dark Covid cloud has been good music. Besides according time to create such good music, the pandemic and the lockdown have also proven to be a muse for many poetic minds.

From collaborations like Justin Bieber and Ariana Grande (for Stuck With U) or that of Michael Bublé, Barenaked Ladies and Sofia Reyes (for Gotta Be Patient), or numbers like Luke Combs' Six Feet Apart, there has been no dearth of music in the ‘pandemic pop’ genre.

Not to be left out in the race, English rock band The Rolling Stones released their Covid song — Living in a Ghost Town in April this year. The song is the first Rolling Stones single in four years and the first original material from the band in eight years! The band’s lead singer Mick Jagger said that he wrote the song with lead guitarist Keith Richards in about 10 minutes! The lyrics were tweaked to accommodate the lockdown. Clearly, Covid has inspired the band like nothing else.

Each line from the song speaks to every single one of individually, and as a collective humanity. Sample this: “Life was so beautiful, then we all got locked down.” Or, “So much time to lose, just staring at my phone…

The song ends with a plea to heavens from all of us — "Please let this be over, stuck in a world without end…"

The video is no less inspiring. The fish-eyed view of empty streets and eerily deserted Piccadilly Circus in London was goose bumps-evoking, to say the very least.

Sums up our lives in 2020, doesn't it?
