Can you escape 'Thugs of Hindostan'? Apparently, no

Aamir Khan is yet to make the best film of his life

It’s 2019. The year of big-budget flop movies is apparently over.

But no — the moment you start simmering in such a warm feeling, you receive a notification on your mobile phone. Thugs of Hindostan is now streaming on Amazon Prime.

Is this a notification, or warning? We are not sure.

But we are sure that there is no way of escaping those Thugs now. Now that we don’t have to pay anything extra, won’t we watch the Yash Raj masterpiece, by mistake?

Well, before you do that, consider this:

Thugs flopped in China too

Can you believe that?

The poster boy of Bollywood’s success story in China flopped in China?

The movie released in China in the last week of 2018 and had a poor opening. In a week, it made less than $8 million — which was much below expectations.

Aamir Khan is popularly known as 'Uncle Mi' in China. But Thugs, it seems, has stolen Uncle Mi’s thunder as Chinese movie sites have not given more than 6.6 out of 10 to the film. (Well, we're not aware of the Chinese marking system. But a sixty per cent is pretty good in some Indian universities).

According to the Global Times, the actor did not leave any stone unturned to make Thugs do some business in China.

“From South to North, from East to West, he had visited a number of key Chinese cities including Guangzhou, Xi’an, Nanjing and Shanghai. He even spent Christmas Eve with Chinese moviegoers for the movie’s Chinese premiere. He used various ways from taking selfies with fans to showing his Chinese handicrafts to please Chinese audiences,” a report read.

So then, how could this happen?

According to the newspaper, the Chinese are now tired of watching Indian movies.

They are not aware of the Indian history that this film dealt with. Also, the negative reviews from India impacted the Chinese audience.

Remember, they have not even seen the same version that we (the unfortunate few who did) saw here. Aamir Khan wanted some changes here and there to suit his Chinese audience.

Are Aamir and Katrina alright?

Meanwhile, Aamir's Thugs co-star Katrina Kaif’s acting in Zero (another flop) has been praised. She has also received an award for being the 'best real superstar on social media'. On the other hand, Aamir took entire responsibility for their film’s massive failure.

But we are not quite sure whether they are still alright.

Otherwise, why is Katrina swimming in the English Channel on the first day of 2019?

And why did Aamir Khan recently dress up as Obelix?

So, here's wishing the two stars well and of course, the audiences who saw Thugs.

For the new movie, well, wait for it!
