Set up in 1921, the UP board calls itself the biggest board examination body in the world, and has about 22,000 affiliated schools to back the claim. But, the number of schools often does not result in record number of students passing out from the board.

However, the board bucked the trend this time around as only a fraction of the students dropped out of the examinations. As per reports, a total of 26,56,319 students had signed up for the examinations this year for the Class 12 board exams, of which only 2,04,845 students did not appear for all the papers.
