Chetan Bhagat's obsession with making controversial tweets has, by now, become a joke in itself. The writer's tweets, have in the past, irked many and it is a usual scene that he comes up with another tweet clarifying his intentions.
On Friday morning, Chetan tried to take a dig at the historians, likely in the context of over 50 historians speaking out about rising intolerance in India, and tweeted:
We had so many historians?
— Chetan Bhagat (@chetan_bhagat) October 30, 2015
What do historians do? I am genuinely curious. This happened. Then this happened. Then this. Ok work done for the day.
— Chetan Bhagat (@chetan_bhagat) October 30, 2015
As usual, his tweets backfired. Check out some funny reactions he got:
.@chetan_bhagat what do IIT-IIM grads. do? I'm curious. Write tharki love stories. Then, judge Nach Baliye. Ok work done for the day.

@chetan_bhagat What do authors do? I am genuinely curious. Judge one talent show, then judge one dance show. Ok work done for the day.

.@chetan_bhagat Sir, what you do? I’m really curious to know, lets troll congress, then BJP, then historians, then congress,..repeat????

Some went a step ahead:
. @chetan_bhagat at least better than the story of your marriage! pic.twitter.com/yFQNUCevPI
— othla (@othlaw) October 30, 2015
With this one, Chetan was burnt:
@chetan_bhagat not sure what they do but writers can b damaging 2 fellow writers. Did u read @MumbaiMirror today? pic.twitter.com/h5a87TXThp
— kitsharma (@kitsharma) October 30, 2015
But Mr Bhagat was in no mood to give up. He tweeted a question -
Return your award. Go for it. But be clear what you are returning it for. Are Indians intolerant? Or is the govt intolerant?
— Chetan Bhagat (@chetan_bhagat) October 30, 2015
- immediately got a response saying
@chetan_bhagat is chetan bhagat bjp chamcha
— मित्रों कैसे हो सभी (@Aapfans1) October 30, 2015
- and he answered himself:
Dear foreign media,I have written whatever I wanted about either political party & have never been told to not write it. India is free.
— Chetan Bhagat (@chetan_bhagat) October 30, 2015
Here are some other funny reactions he got:
Chetan Bhagat, trying to climb back to the bhakt/sanghi/RW side. pic.twitter.com/yoqGkk7GvX

I know that what history will do is forget Chetan Bhagat.
— Rohan (@mojorojo) October 30, 2015
Chetan Bhagat is targeting historians. This should impress the hysterians.
— Madhavan Narayanan (@madversity) October 30, 2015
@chetan_bhagat If you can call yourself a writer, why wouldn't they? But I am sure, a 5th standard student can write better than you.
— Anjana Om Kashyap (@niveshsaharan) October 30, 2015
He then went on to make his stand about those who are returning awards, tweeting
I respect all who have returned awards and their views, just clarifying how I feel as a writer here, before foreign media reaches conclusions.
— Chetan Bhagat (@chetan_bhagat) October 30, 2015
and now, we have no idea what exactly the "best-selling" author's views are! Finally, he tried to pull back his tweet on historians calling it a joke!
In case it was not blatantly obvious that historian tweet was a joke. Made a million of them on writers and engineers before. Duh!
— Chetan Bhagat (@chetan_bhagat) October 30, 2015
On October 18, Chetan got trolled for mocking writers who returned their Sahita Akademi Award.
We really feel Chetan should take a break from social media, go to the hills, but refrain himself from writing another novel mashing up characters and situations from his earlier novels.
