&lt;p id='p_1'&gt;Bulk of the loans that are currently in distress were given out during the Congress rule between 2009 and 2014. It spiked right after the US' banking crisis of 2007-08 - 2009, 2010 and 2011 were the years when banks gave the major share of these loans. This lending pushed the non-performing assets, which were at 2.5 per cent in 2009, to 4 per cent in 2014. By July 2017, it had jumped to about 10.2 per cent.&lt;/p&gt;
