Weekend of chaos in Sri Lanka sees takeover of Presidential palace, PM's home set afire by protesters

Hundreds of protestors stormed into the official residence of Sri Lankan President, Gotabaya Rajapaksa on July 9, 2022. The protestors will continue to occupy the official residence of the President and the private residence of the Prime Minister until their resignation. Protesters were seen roaming around and ransacking the Presidential palace. President Gotabaya Rajapaksa is reportedly on a navy vessel in Sri Lankan waters.
