Pakistani journalist reporting own wedding (and other ridiculous TV news) makes even Indian media shine

There is no denying that when it comes to mainstream Indian media, there is no such thing as rock bottom, but our neighbour Pakistan often tries its best to outdo us — and it always succeeds. The sheer absurdity of bad Pakistani journalism is exemplified by the antics of one Hanan Bukhari. A reporter for City 41 channel in Pakistan, Bukhari did the unthinkable: He reported live on his own wedding; and that too in proper wedding attire.

Bahut khushi ka din hai, mere liye bhi, aur mere gharwalo ke liye bhi. Meri, kyunki love marriage hai, aur love marriage mein meri wife bhi khaasi khush hain. Na sirf meri wife balki unke ghar waale bhi khush nazar aate hain. Mere Walid-e-Mohtaram bhi yahan maujood hain, jinhone betahasha ant tak mehnat karne ke baad yeh din dekha hai. Aur tamam intezamaat bhi sambhaale the unhone (my family members and I are very happy today. Since ours is a love marriage, my wife and her family members are happy, too. My mother and father — present here — have gone to great lengths to make arrangements... to make this day come true...),” announced the groom-cum-reporter in a now viral news clip, armed with a mic and the unearthly confidence TV journalists are blessed with.

He then proceeds to interview the bride and her father.

Despite the fact that reporting one’s own wedding is, at the very least, amazing; it is definitely only the tip of the iceberg when you consider the bizarre surgical television strikes Pakistan is home to.

The most famous is by Chand Nawab, a reporter who achieved meme status thanks to a viral video that showed him (unsuccessfully) trying to report on Eid at Karachi railway station. In fact, his viral video became the source of inspiration for Nawazuddin Siddiqui’s character in the Salman Khan film Bajrangi Bhaijaan.

But it doesn't stop here.

Amin Hafeez, a Geo News Urdu anchor, gives Nawab tough completion with his antics. In 2016, Hafeez was seen presenting a comprehensive TV news report in which he interviewed cattle. He reported about the genteel cattle of Lahore that are forced to use a footbridge to cross roads.

He was seen holding a mic to buffalos and even supposedly asking for their opinion, noting their every moo.

Hafeez has also been known to express his intense joy with rains in Lahore.

India may have loud anchors, courtroom dramas and active fist fights on TV news, but when it comes to the real bizarre and beautiful moments — just like Coke Studio — it is Pakistan that’s the clear winner.
