Lok Sabha 2019: 5 gaffes we couldn’t stop laughing over!

From radar theory to Nirav Choudhary, we laughed so much, we forgot our woes!

There were prepared speeches filled with absurd claims — and then, there were impromptu goof-ups. There were lies and white lies. This election season, we have seen it all. With no malice in our heart, we have collected all the pearls with which we will make a necklace and wear it after May 23.

Crimes against women

Morning shows the day. We are sure that the BJP is not taking any extra step to ‘commit crimes against women’. Or even if it is, it didn’t mean to blurt that out on its election manifesto. It was a slip-up — an honest one. We laughed out loud, keeping aside our dark humour.

Give them fruits!

Mathura is plagued by a monkey menace. MP Hema Malini offered a quick solution. Don’t offer delicious food to those monkeys. Just give them fruits. They will go away on their own. (We are sure she must have tried this trick with her daughters when they were kids).

“The problem is the tourists give Frooti and samosa to the monkeys. They should only give them fruits,” Hema Malini said, fully sure of the fact that Mathura's monkeys don’t vote for her.

Cloud cover and India's defence

It was not an election speech. But there's no way you could have missed it. It was an interview Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave to a news channel, where he uttered some secret inside stories of the Balakot air-strike. The weather was inclement that day (February 26). There were clouds in the minds of the experts as well. But Modi had a flash of thought: Because of cloud and rain, we can avert Pakistani radar too.

The rest is history.

Who are all these people?

Only a few days ago, the Congress was jumping in joy after wresting Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh from the BJP. But guess what? Every joy in the world is ephemeral. Congress president Rahul Gandhi doesn't even remember the name of the CMs of those two states. Or, that's what we were supposed to believe as a fake video of Rahul Gandhi confusing the names of the CMs went viral.

Nirav Choudhary kaun hai?

We have no idea. We are sure Rahul Gandhi, too, doesn't have any idea. All he was saying was Narendra Modi gave Rs 35,000 crores to Mehul Choksi. But those who were there in his Krishnagiri rally heard "Narendra Modi gave Rs 31,000 crores to Nirav Choudhary". Courtesy his translator.

And this was just one of the translation woes that Rahul Gandhi faced.

Guess what? We all are tensed and just need to laugh. Thank you, Election 2019.
