Mahsa Amini death, Iran's anti-hijab protests and Death to the Dictator: A timeline

The death of a young woman, 22-year-old Mahsa Amini from Saqez, Iran, has made Iranians take to the streets chanting 'Death to the Dictator', chopping off their hair, and burning their hijabs. Amini was arrested by Iran's notorious 'Morality Police' on September 13 for a 'loosely tied' hijab. Six days later, she was dead.

The protests have now spread to at least 50 cities and towns across Iran, with the police using force to disperse demonstrations. Iranian women are furious and protesting for 'life and freedom' after the death of Amini.
