Nothing has changed for the protesters in Iran. The protests erupted after 22-year-old Mahsa Amini was arrested by Iran's morality police for not wearing her hijab properly, and then she died under their custody.
Since her death, the protests in Iran have snowballed (since September 16, 2022) and the government has reacted brutally to crush them. More than 500 protesters have been killed so far, and new hijab rules have been imposed on women. Young men who are supporting women's rights have been executed.
What's happening now?
Fresh protests: New protests have erupted in Iran after many protesters were killed. Last Friday, December 30, protesters chanted 'Death to the dictator, death to Khameni' on the streets.
Mark Ruffalo supports Iran protesters: Famous Iranian actress Taraneh Alidousti was arrested on December 20, 2022, for supporting protesters in Iran when she posted a story defying mandatory hijab laws. After 17 days, she was transferred into solitary confinement.
Now, over 600 artists from all over the globe have signed a petition demanding the Islamic Republic to free well-known Iranian actress Taraneh Alidousti.
Like many other filmmakers and artists, American actor Mark Ruffalo called for her release on Instagram on Monday. He stated that more than 600 artists had signed a statement requesting the release of the Iranian actress, "We want her free."
