Vivek Ramaswamy, an Indian-origin candidate for the Republican nomination for the US Presidency in 2024, is no stranger to controversies, often finding himself in awkward situations.

This time, during a live stream conversation with Elon Musk, Alex Jones, Andrew Tate, Matt Gaetz, and others, it appeared that he forgot to mute his microphone while using the restroom.

What

  • On December 11, Vivek Ramaswamy was engaged in a space conversation with personalities such as Elon Musk, Alex Jones, Andrew Tate, Matt Gaetz, and others.

  • During this conversation, as he was discussing the right-wing talking point about "draining the swamp," it seemed that Vivek's microphone was left on and inadvertently broadcasted the sound of him urinating, according to netizens.

  • The level of embarrassment escalated as the space had more than 100,000 listeners at the time and 2.3 million tuned in at some point during the incident. Ramaswamy was in the midst of describing his stance as "super pro-human – and I mean all humans. Uh, you know, humans in America" when the sound of trickling water interrupted him, prompting another participant to attempt to mute him unsuccessfully.

  • “Vivek, Vivek, that’s your phone, Vivek,” the participant said. “I’m not able to mute you.” “Sorry about that,” Ramaswamy responded.

  • After a pause, Musk humorously interjected, “Well, I hope you feel better now.”

  • “I feel great, thank you,” Ramaswamy replied, laughing.

The trolling

The incident was seized upon by people on the internet who began trolling him for his carelessness. Even Elon Musk commented, "I’m literally rofl rn."

Check out some reactions:

Not the first time

This isn't the first time Vivek Ramaswamy, a contender for the Republican presidential nomination, has found himself in hot water.

He has frequently made headlines for engaging in or expressing borderline problematic views, resulting in awkward situations and public online trolling.

Let's examine a few instances:

Climate change denial

In August 2023, during the initial Republican debate focusing on climate change, Ramaswamy labeled the agenda surrounding the issue a hoax. In response, he was met with boos from the audience.

“I’m the only candidate on stage who isn’t bought and paid for, so I can say this — the climate change agenda is a hoax"

Accusations of plagiarism from Obama's speech

In that same month, Vivek Ramaswamy faced accusations of heavily borrowing from one of Barack Obama's iconic speeches during his appearance at a Republican presidential primary debate in Wisconsin.

Responding to a question about his status as a political newcomer, Ramaswamy addressed the crowd, stating, "Let me address the question that's on everybody's mind at home tonight."

"Who is this skinny guy with a funny last name, and what is he doing in the middle of this debate stage?" he continued.

Observers quickly noticed the striking similarity between this statement and Barack Obama's memorable 2004 speech at the Democratic National Convention. During that address, Obama expressed his patriotism and conveyed the idea of 'the hope of a skinny kid with a funny name who believes that America has a place for him, too."

His love for conspiracy theories

In a recent interview, Ramaswamy voiced support for various far-right conspiracy theories, asserting that the January 6 attack on the Capitol was an 'inside job.'

"Why am I the only person on this stage, at least, who can say that Jan. 6 now does look like it was an inside job?" Ramaswamy said.

Despite evidence demonstrating a significant number of participants in the attack being linked to far-right extremist groups or conspiratorial movements such as the Oath Keepers, Proud Boys, and Three Percenters, motivated by Donald Trump's speech, Ramaswamy persisted in his assertion.

Additionally, in an interview with The Atlantic magazine, he expressed support for 9/11 conspiracy theories, stating, "I think it is legitimate to ask, how many police or federal agents were on the planes that hit the Twin Towers?"

Considering these stances and controversial statements, what are your thoughts on Vivek Ramaswamy as a strong Presidential candidate for 2024?
