DailyOh! Lesson Sachin Pilot can take from Gaya Lal

In politics, you can take stands and change stands and then go back to stands that you first took.

Amid the partial and total lockdowns being imposed and reimposed in different parts of the country, the virus has achieved a punishable milestone of 10,00,000 cases in India. About 20 vaccines are now in human trial stage in a bid to punish the virus.

While the world is searching for a new vaccine, HCL Technologies has found a new chairperson. Roshni Nadar Malhotra will now be the guiding light for the company because her father Shiv Nadar has decided to step down from the position. Apart from being HCL Tech’s chairperson, Roshni is the richest Indian woman with a net worth of Rs 36,800 crore. You can figure out the number of zeroes there.

On the day HCL got its Roshni, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said China will not get even an inch of Indian territory. Singh said this and much more during his visit to the forward areas of Ladakh. You may say Modi stole his thunder by thundering against China from Ladakh before the Defence Minister, but Singh is in Ladakh on a two-day visit as opposed to Modi’s visit of about 7-8 hours. Also, Singh’s visit will include a visit to Jammu and Kashmir.

Guess who is not impressed? Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Gandhi has tried to explain through a video why and how the BJP has messed up on the China front. He has gone on to say his bête noire Narendra Modi, who happens to be occupying the position that he aims to occupy someday, has messed up everything. Gandhi talked about many things but many on Twitter couldn’t look beyond the looks.

Gandhi’s videos, as per Gandhi, will be a regular feature and cover topics like current affairs and the old affairs of history.

The current(est) affair that Gandhi did not talk about was the affairs of his own party. The man who spoke about it was Randeep Surjewala. Surjewala addressed a press conference early in the morning upping the already upped ante against the BJP, he accused the party of hatching a conspiracy to topple the Ashok Gehlot government in Rajasthan. He then announced the party is suspending party MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma from the primary membership of the party.

He demanded an FIR against Union minister Gajendra Shekhawat for trying to poach Congress MLAs. All this happened while you were still thinking whether to eat your egg scrambled or poached. Politics is not an easy profession; nor is poaching, which is a part of politics.

To poach something is to cook food, especially fish or egg, gently in a small amount of liquid. But poach is also to illegally hunt for birds, animals or fish on somebody else’s property without permission. The Congress claims the BJP is trying to hunt for its MLAs without its permission. You can poach an animal without permission, but not a human. To poach politicians you got to pay a price.

Poach, our Word Of The Day, finds origin in Old French word ‘pochier’, which means ‘enclose in a bag’. Pochier drew from the word ‘poche’, meaning ‘bag, pocket’. Poached MPs and MLAs are now enclosed in five or seven-star hotels and resorts. If you thought that’s some fancy stay, do know it also has a fancy name – resort politics.

What is the last resort for Sachin Pilot, currently pushed out of the cockpit? The final word on that is yet to be spoken even though so much has been spoken about him.

Being a politician he can do anything he wants – go back to the party which he has accused of being unfair to him, or go into BJP which he has accused of being communal and what not. In politics, there are no permanent friends and no permanent enemies. You can say that for life too. But you can’t do it like politicians do.

One politician changed friends and enemies so quickly he left all his friends, enemies and his nobodys in a tizzy. In 1967, that man changed parties every 8 hours on an average. Within a day, he had changed three parties. In the mother of all ironies, the man was named Gaya Lal.

Haryana was carved out in 1966. In 1967, it went for its first election. Gaya Lal was then an independent MLA. He went from the Indian National Congress to Janata Party and then came back to Congress.

So much going around earned for Gaya Lal the infamous ‘Aaya Ram, Gaya Ram’ phrase.

Gaya Lal went with who he went with evaluating his gains, but the Uttar Pradesh Police have told the Supreme Court that gangster Vikas Dubey refused to surrender and go with them to Kanpur and was therefore shot down – Bang, Bang! Having shared a close relationship with police, had Dubey survived the shots shot by the police, he too would have sung this Bang, Bang song (or the one filmed on Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif, if he liked Bollywood).

Dubey did have a thing for song and dance.

The court will decide whether Dubey’s encounter was fake or genuine, but Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh has ruled that no CBI probe is needed in the death of Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput.

Rajput’s movie Dil Bechara you know is releasing next Friday and you can watch it first night, first show even if you aren't subscribed to Disney+Hotstar. The platform has made the film free for all. You just need to have the app.

Three movies will then release on the Friday after the next Friday. We mean July 31. They could have released one this week, no? Sure they have their reasons.

What should you do this weekend? In Bhai style, do whatever you want to do, man. His movie Bajrangi Bhaijaan (2015) turned five today. Do some chicken-style Kuk-Doo-Koo.

We will see you on Monday. Stay safe.
