A day after truce was reportedly reached between Congress leaders Ashok Gehlot and Sachin Pilot, Pilot reached Rajasthan’s capital Jaipur, while Gehlot reached Jaisalmer. Congratulated on his comeback, Pilot said he never left the party but only wanted that he be given his due respect in the Rajasthan Congress. We do not know about respect, but Gehlot’s ‘nikamma nakara’ jibes against Pilot sure seemed like insults. How to handle insult? Swallow it. Then there is nothing left to handle.

Pilot’s comeback, made after not going anywhere, is being credited to Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi. While Rahul wasn’t seen meeting Pilot, Priyanka was seen sharing a frame with Pilot after the truce. It is said Priyanka dialled Farooq Abdullah, Pilot’s father-in-law, and Rama Pilot, Sachin Pilot’s mother, to broker peace.
One of the accusations against the Pilot camp has been that the rebels funded their rebellion on BJP money. When legislators rebel, the first thing they need is a resort or five-star hotel. Out in the open, they run the risk of being poached. Then there are legal bills. Pilot says everything was paid for by the rebels. Who paid and who got paid is not a controversy we want to get into because there is already a controversy the nation is in the grip of. Yes, the controversy surrounding Sushant Singh Rajput’s death. More on that later.
More on khareed pharokht of legislators for now. In India, buying and selling of MPs and MLAs is called horse-trading, but a similar attempt in Pakistan came to be known as Changa Manga politics. Since that incident, horse-trading is referred to as Changa Manga politics.
Benazir Bhutto and Nawaz Sharif tried to buy each other's MPs. (Photo: Reuters)
About three months after the death of military dictator Muhammad Zia-ul-Haq on August 17, 1988, Benazir Bhutto became the Prime Minister of the country. Bhutto started a bid to buy off independent MPs to firm up her position. Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif then bundled a group of MPs and literally locked them in an isolated rest house. This rest house was in the forest of Changa Manga. Sharif took over as the PM in November 1990. Is horse-trading our shared cultural tie with Pakistan? Democracies in the two countries developed individually, and so any resemblance to any such ties is purely coincidental.
Now, to the controversy that has set the national imagination free. The Sushant Singh Rajput death case has seen everyone set their imaginative horses free since nobody is paying to keep them locked in Changa Manga.
At the centre of all conspiracy theories has been Rhea Chakraborty. There are theories that she cut Sushant off from all people he had known before knowing her. This includes his family. Sushant’s father KK Singh has made public some WhatsApp messages in which he is telling Rhea that she should tell him about the well-being of his son. Did Rhea respond? We do not know. What we also do not know is why was Sushant letting Rhea cut him off from ‘his people’. Meanwhile, 28-year-old Rhea has told the Supreme Court that she wants the case to be probed by Mumbai Police and wants people to stop trolling and harassing her. The court will decide on the matter on Thursday. So, please breathe easy tomorrow.
You can do that. Sooraj Pancholi unfortunately can't.
Pancholi has made a complaint similar to that of Rhea's, not to the SC, but Versova police. The actor has filed his complaint against certain sections of the media, YouTubers, and some other people for linking him to Disha Salian and Sushant Singh Rajput’s deaths without any evidence. Pancholi claims unverified news being shared on social media has caused him immense mental harassment.
Many in Jammu and Kashmir have been complaining that the absence of 4G internet has been causing them harassment. So the government has told SC that 4G services will be restored in two districts – one in Jammu and the other in Kashmir – from August 15. This is going to be a trial of sorts. If there is peace in the districts after 4G comeback, the services could be extended.
J&K can’t wait to get its 4G back, but if you have had internet overdose, you can look up. No, not at the ceiling with the lizard crawling, but up at the sky. There will be some showers on August 11 and August 12, not rain or blessings, but meteor showers - the Perseid meteor shower. This celestial show is a result of the debris left behind by Comet Swift-Tuttle.
A meteor shower is an event in which a number of meteors radiate, or originate, from one point in the night sky. The meteors are caused by cosmic debris entering Earth's atmosphere at extremely high speeds.
But why is this particular shower being called Perseid? Perseid, the Word Of The Day, comes from the word Perseus. Perseus is a constellation from which the current meteors appear to hail. They are therefore called Perseid.
What's up in the night sky this August? ???? On Aug. 9, Mars appears close to the Moon before dawn. Look toward the south, high in the sky, and you can't miss it. On Aug. 12, catch the peak of the annual Perseid meteor shower. When & where to look up: https://t.co/gShGniqN1q pic.twitter.com/5buykpoDLh— NASA (@NASA) August 8, 2020
Where does Perseus get its name from? Greek mythology.
Perseus is the mythological founder of Mycenae and of the Perseid dynasty. He was one among several great Greek heroes and slayer of monsters.
If you find mythology hard to believe, there is something harder to trust. Russian President Vladimir Putin claims Russia has found the vaccine that builds strong immunity against coronavirus – all in two months. To gain people’s trust, he also said that his daughter has been inoculated. Putin has two Putinas, we mean daughters, Mariya Putina, Yekaterina Putina. There is no news on which of the two has been vaccinated. There is also no clarity on whether Putin himself has taken the vaccine.
While it is not clear what’s going on in Russia, it is also not clear how a person tested positive for Covid-19 after 102 days in New Zealand. Nobody came to the country, nobody left the country, so how did the virus infect the said person? Has the virus now developed legs and is walking on its own or New Zealand has more cases? That is something New Zealand will have to find out.
But in an extremely sad news for India, lyricist and Urdu poet Rahat Indori passed away due to coronavirus today. He was 70. Indori was admitted to a hospital in Madhya Pradesh just last night. They say when an artist dies, don't mourn his loss, but celebrate his art. So, let's do what they say.
From Madhya Pradesh, let's head to Uttar Pradesh where the daughter of a dhaba owner has died. Sudeeksha Bhaati studied in Babson College in Massachusetts on a scholarship of Rs 3.8 crore. She was in India for vacations and died today while she was on her way to Bulandshahr on a two-wheeler.
The family says the Class 12 topper was being eve-teased even as her uncle was riding the bike on which she was the pillion rider. The alleged eve-teasers reportedly hit Bhaati’s bike while trying stunts. When the story broke, anger too broke out. And then came a second theory: The girl was riding pillion while her underage brother was riding the bike. Both were not wearing helmets. The bike fell in an accident and Sudeeksha died. We live one life, also one death. But the death can have multiple theories.
Sudeeksha’s death is a matter of investigation but there is no doubt this daughter made her family proud.
“Once a daughter, always a daughter,” said Supreme Court in another case today.
The court said that a woman is entitled to equal rights over parental property in accordance with the 2005 amendment in the Hindu Succession Act, even if the father had died before 2005.
So that is one fact settled in terms of death even if all other facts are left to imagination and speculation.
We will leave you in your imaginative world for today with some Khayali Pulao.
Be back tomorrow.
