DailyOh! What huge crowds at Tejashwi Yadav’s rallies could mean, to who are Americans voting for

The fate of Lalu Yadav’s anointed heir has been sealed today but what will the results mean for him.

A tikka is a tikka, but then there is also a masala tikka. If you choose to call one the other, and the other the one, trust Twitter to call you out for not knowing which is what and what is which.

Indian-American Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal either got confused between the two or maybe just chose to skip the word masala from Paneer Tikka while sharing her comfort food made in honour of Democratic Vice-Presidential candidate Kamala Harris. This sent Paneer Tikka trending. Jayapal made and ate Paneer Tikka Masala because Kamala Harris recently said her favourite North Indian food is any kind of tikka. Mutton and Chicken Tikka lovers may take offence to all tikkas being bracketed as one and the same, but Twitter took offence because Jayapal’s tikkas were seen drowning in masala.

Jayapal then shared her recipe for both the tikka and way to drown them in masala. If the pre-poll surveys hold, Democratic candidate Joe Biden could well drown Donald Trump’s hopes of a second term in office. To pep his winning chances, Trump released a video in which the US President performs what looks like a ‘handy’ dance with a little sway of the legs and waist, asking people to ‘VOTE! VOTE! VOTE!’

Who gets to dance and who cries foul when the results are announced will be known when the results are announced. You see, the thing in US is that the US doesn’t have an election commission. States declare results individually and then it is left to the presidential candidates to declare victory or concede defeat. So it is being expected that Trump will declare an early win because more Republican supporters are likely to vote at booths. Why so? Because Trump supporters do not believe the pandemic is as serious as it has been made out to be. So if Trump declares victory and then later when postal ballots are counted it emerges that Biden has won, the matter could reach court.

In Bihar, who gets how many votes will be known on November 10. If no coalition gets a clear majority, then there will some trading of horses. That will happen later. Today, Bihar voted for 1,464 candidates. Rashtriya Janata Dal leader Tejashwi Yadav is among them. Tejashwi Yadav’s rallies have seen some of the biggest crowds this election season. In 2010, Lalu Yadav has also been a huge crowd puller but his party got just 22 seats. But people came to Lalu’s rallies for he was a great entertainer. If they are coming to Tejashwi’s rallies, there has to be something more than just entertainment.

Is it possible the crowds are looking for a possible groom?

Between November 2015 and July 2017, Tejashwi Yadav was Bihar’s Deputy Chief Minister. To appear accessible and ready to solve people’s problems, Yadav Junior shared a WhatsApp number with people. Yadav asked for complaints specific to infrastructure. The aim was to get people to click photos of bad roads or broken poles and send them in order to get them fixed. What Tejashwi Yadav got instead were about 44,000 marriage proposals via WhatsApp.

If only WhatsApp offered then what it is offering now. WhatsApp is rolling out a new storage tool that will make it easier for users to identify, review and bulk-delete content that may be filling their phone. WhatsApp will also offer easy clean-up suggestions.

WhatsApp chats recently got many celebrities in trouble and it seems they are only mounting for actor Deepika Padukone’s former manager Karishma Prakash. We say ‘former’ because Karishma apparently resigned from KWAN on October 21. When the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) raided her house, they reportedly found some hashish, but not Karishma. It now emerges that Karishma will present herself before NCB tomorrow and if she fails, NCB could issue an arrest warrant against her for evading summons.

Mumbai Police, meanwhile, have summoned Kangana Ranaut and sister Rangoli on November 10 for questioning in a case of allegedly promoting enmity between communities.

Enmity between communities could have been the reason behind the shooting in Austria where a gunman, believed to be a supporter of the Islamic State, was killed after three people were murdered and over 14 injured in Vienna. It is not clear if more gunmen are lurking in Vienna, so people have been asked to stay at home because “that is where you are safest”.

Indian embassy in Austria has also asked people of the Indian community to remain cautious. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said Austria must know it isn’t alone because “India stands with Austria”.

Coming back to the attack, it is believed the gunman, or gunmen, attacked people at at least six locations. The first one came right outside a synagogue. Since terror attacks happen presumably to defend religion, they generally target religious monuments of other religions.

Synagogue, you know, is a building where Jews meet for religious worship and teaching. But do you know where the word comes from? Well, synagogue, our Word Of The Day, comes from Greek sunagoge, which meant ‘meeting’, where ‘sun’ meant together and ‘agein’ meant bring. A structure that brings Jews together for religious purposes is called a synagogue. Put simply, it is a Jewish house of worship, which has facilities for religious instructions.

It is difficult to put a date to when Jews started building synagogues, but some scholars believe the destruction of Solomon’s Temple of Jerusalem in 586 BCE gave rise to synagogues because people started using their homes for public worship and religious instruction.

The coronavirus forced us to start using our homes as our offices, but Home Minister Amit Shah could leave home to be in West Bengal on Thursday and Friday – November 5 and 6 - with an eye on the polls in 2021. This after he stayed away from addressing any rally in Bihar in 2020.

But guess who has stepped in defence of YouTuber Gaurav Wasan, who made a video on the plight of Kanta Prasad and his wife Badami Devi? Actor R Madhavan. Madhavan believes Gaurav Wasan 'has indeed done awesome work by highlighting the old couple's plight'. He said if allegations against Wasan are found to be false, we must applaud him more, so that others are not discouraged from helping those in need.

An investigation in the matter is on and may soon bring out the truth on whether the food blogger duped Kanta Prasad or was only genuinely helping him. In either case, Kanta Prasad has been helped because he has received monetary assistance and people are now going to his food stall to eat. But talking of food reminds us of a movie which is as much about food as about biases. We recommend you watch it too. Which movie? Axone. Axone revolves around the lives of a group of people from the Northeast living in Delhi, fighting biases and struggling to cook a traditional dish.

We will leave you with thinking over Paneer Tikkas, Axone and elections from US to Bihar. And also...
